In the event you do yourself one decorating favor, make it this: Do not match your armchairs to your couch. I mean, they can have stuff in common and all, but there is just something so stodgy about a fitting living room set. Particularly when you could have so much fun with armchairs. Yes, I wrote the phrase “pleasure with armchairs” with a straight face.
I am not saying you must go totally mad, just maybe a splash or two color. Take a cue from the 16 allure. Pattern, form and colour go a ways. And you know you’ve always wanted to learn how to reupholster.
Think about using two different cloths for the chair and the back. Suggestion: The chair needs to be the patterned one, as it will get the most wear and tear.

There is nothing special about these armchairs but for the fact that they are bright turquoise. What a great break from all that brown.

A green chair in a lattice pattern ups the brand new, modern conservatory feeling in this light-filled room.
Another instance of using two fabrics. Here the blue and yellow echo the colour scheme of the entire space but include some pattern and interest.
All these are so womanly and tasteful and just plain amazing. Whenever you have a very stunning design, the chair can function as a framework for the fabric.

A big, bold suzani pattern makes this chair the visual attention of the room.

You do not need to really go wild. But even a traditional pattern in a mellow color can add a good deal of texture and design and split up an otherwise dull room.

Traditional chairs in a not-so-traditonal colour. My favourite trick.

Another traditional chair — this time a rocker — redone with a bright, bold design. It is a new spin on an old classic.
Stripes are classic and symmetrical. But in vivid colors such as this, they show off their wild side.

Even the beige-loving traditionalists one of us could handle this.

Reupholstered Vintage Wingback Chair
I will bet this chair started out with a dark, faux-walnut finish and a plaid chair. And only look at it today. New life.
One-of-a-Kind Benazir Sari Armchair
This one-of-a-kind chair upholstered in classic cotton saris is so cushy and inviting. This and a wall of books equals my dream Sunday.
There is not anything I do not love about this chair. Nothing.
The bed is vying for all the attention, but in any other area, this portrait chair would be the principal attraction.

These patterned dome chairs are so striking, they are almost amusing. I mean, if these are your chairs, you take yourself very badly, or you’re having a little bit of fun.
